R Dataset / Package mosaicData / Gestation
On this Picostat.com statistics page, you will find information about the Gestation data set which pertains to Data from the Child Health and Development Studies. The Gestation data set is found in the mosaicData R package. Try to load the Gestation data set in R by issuing the following command at the console data("Gestation"). This may load the data into a variable called Gestation. If R says the Gestation data set is not found, you can try installing the package by issuing this command install.packages("mosaicData") and then attempt to reload the data with library("mosaicData") followed by data("Gestation"). Perhaps strangley, if R gives you no output after entering a command, it means the command succeeded. If it succeeded you can see the data by typing Gestation at the command-line which should display the entire dataset.
If you need to download R, you can go to the R project website. You can download a CSV (comma separated values) version of the Gestation R data set. The size of this file is about 81,131 bytes.
Data from the Child Health and Development Studies
Birth weight, date, and gestational period collected as part of the Child Health and Development Studies in 1961 and 1962. Information about the baby's parents — age, education, height, weight, and whether the mother smoked is also recorded.
A data frame with 1236 observations on the following variables.
The data were presented by Nolan and Speed to address the question of whether there is a link between maternal smoking and the baby's health.
The book by Nolan and Speed describes the data in more detail and provides an Internet site for accessing them: http://www.stat.berkeley.edu/users/statlabs/
